Le projet, à haute valeur écologique, puise son inspiration dans les richesses locales pour s'intégrer et respecter au mieux son environnement. Ménageant des vues agréables pour les enfants, cette construction compacte et de plain-pied se déploie le long du talus existant, face au village médiéval. Un préau d'accueil relie l'école à l'ensemble indépendant du périscolaire ; la cour de récréation est en recul de la route et protégée des vents par les arbres. Contemporaine dans ses matériaux (béton de terre extraite sur place et bardage bois local), la bâtisse possède une structure bois posée sur un mur en pierres, qui rappelle les constructions et les falaises environnantes. Les parois sur-isolées, une ventilation double flux à récupération de chaleur, les brise soleil et les panneaux photovoltaïques font de cette école un bâtiment passif, ayant la capacité à éviter la surchauffe en été et produire de l'énergie renouvelable.
Et parce que le respect de la santé des enfants est une priorité, les peintures sont sans COV, les revêtements de sol en caoutchouc naturel et les isolants, comme la ouate de cellulose et les fibres de bois, tous issus de filières bio sourcées.
